Well. I’m not a poet, I’m just a woman. And as a woman I have no way to make money, not enough to earn a living and support my family. Even if I had my own money, which I don’t, it would belong to my husband the minute we were married. If we had children they would belong to him not me. They would be his property. So don’t sit there and tell me that marriage isn’t an economic proposition, because it is. It may not be for you but it most certainly is for me.
I’ve been winging it with you for 18 years, pretending I was the one in
charge. You’re amazing, Rosie. There is nothing you can’t do, if you put
your mind to it.
“I am absolutely delighted to welcome you, Tampa, Florida, to the Eras Tour! So I’m looking out at this beautiful crowd, and I just have a few questions. Is there anyone, here in this stadium, who went to a considerable amount of effort in order to be here tonight? That’s a big number. Is there anyone here tonight who put a lot of thought into what you were going to wear? That’s a lot too. Is there anyone here who went to the trouble of learning a lot of lyrics to prepare for this evening? I would like to say on behalf of every single person on this stage, every single person who helped us put on this tour, who helped me in the planning of it, thanks from the bottom of our hearts for all the effort you put into ending up in the same room with us tonight. Thank you so much! Speaking of the people on this stage, we’re very lucky on the Eras Tour because we have fabulous opening acts on this tour. We really do! I’d like to draw attention to them. We started off the evening with the incredible, elegant Gracie Abrams. Make some noise again for Gracie! And then we moved onto the badass and beautiful Beabadoobee. Give it up again for Beabadoobee! So if it’s alright with you, we’re going to go on a grand adventure this evening, taking a little trip through 17 years of music, one era at a time. We’ve got songs we’ll be playing from all different areas of my life, all different things, all different times and memories. Some of these songs are about my life, some are about fictional characters I created, but my hope is that at the end of the day is that these are songs you think are about your life, and that you feel genuinely are about your life, and the song we’re going to play next, well, its just a love song, you know?”
